GSC Student Researcher Receives Chi Beta Phi Grant
Glenville State College junior Tia LeMaster received a Carl T. and Merewyn D. Meadors Research Grant from Chi Beta Phi, a national science honorary. She will use the grant to purchase equipment to supplement her STEM research in organic chemistry under the direction of GSC Professor of Chemistry Dr. Kevin Evans.
GSC Team Advances to Business Plan Competition Finals
Glenville State College freshman Rachel Brown, a Pre-Nursing major from Summersville, West Virginia has landed a spot in the West Virginia Collegiate Business Plan Competition (WVCBPC) finals. Brown and her teammate, Andrew Hamilton, have developed what they call a personal safety application for smartphones.
GSC Literary Magazine Still Taking Submissions
Local artists and writers still have time to submit items for the 2015 issue of the Trillium, Glenville State College’s literary arts journal. The Trillium is a collection of artwork, poetry, fiction, song lyrics, and other forms of creative expression.
Free FAFSA Assistance at GSC
Glenville State College Financial Aid employees are again hosting College Goal Sunday, on Sunday, February 15th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Robert F. Kidd Library. The event allows students and families to receive free, confidential support in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). GSC's event will be one of twenty-four similar workshops held across the Mountain State.
GSC Spirit Song Contest Accepting Entries
A contest is underway at Glenville State College to provide lyrics for a new school spirit song. Two GSC students, Robbie Mann and Josh Pitcock, have composed music for the song and they're now reaching out to the current student body, alumni, and campus faculty and staff to craft the lyrics.
GSC Receives Instrumentation Grant from Weyerhaeuser
The Glenville State College Land Resource Department recently was awarded its third grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company to purchase forestry tools to be used in GSC’s Forest Technology program. This year’s grant follows those awarded in 2011 and 2012, and will be used to purchase a laser dendrometer, a device used when estimating the area and volume of a forested plot.
'Wear Red Day' Luncheon Moved to February 19th
All are invited to join Glenville State College and the American Heart Association for the 12th anniversary celebration of 'Wear Red Day.' The GSC campus will be the site of a free luncheon on Thursday, February 19th at 12:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. The event will be one of many scheduled around the state and nation to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke, which kills one in three women in America.
Energy Conservation Project Underway at GSC
Glenville State College has partnered with Energy Systems Group (ESG) to implement comprehensive energy efficiency and building improvements that have reduced energy costs, modernized building systems and technologies, and enhanced the overall campus environment. These improvements are anticipated to result in annual savings over $176,200 during the 15-year term of the contract with ESG.
Asturian-American Painters Showcased in GSC Gallery
Glenville State College is currently showcasing the paintings of artist Art Wagner, but with a twist. His exhibit also includes pieces by his mother Honnie Wagner and his grandfather Emilio Alvarez for a dynamic show that encompasses around 100 years of culture and history in West Virginia's Asturian communities that got their start in the early 1900s. The show is on display in the GSC Fine Arts Center Spears Gallery and an opening reception is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 26th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
