GLENVILLE, WV â All are invited to join Glenville State College and the American Heart Association for the 12th anniversary celebration of âWear Red Day.â The GSC campus will be the site of a free âWear Red Dayâ Luncheon on Thursday, February 19th at 12:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. The event will be one of many scheduled around the state and nation to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke, which kills one in three women in America. Originally, the luncheon was scheduled for Tuesday, February 17th, but was delayed due to winter weather.
According to American Heart Association officials, events held as part of âWear Red Dayâ encourage awareness of heart disease and actions to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion, and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risks for heart disease and to take action to reduce them. It also provides tools to help lead a heart healthy life.
GSCâs Campus Health Nurse and event organizer Ronda Williams is encouraging everyone, men and women, to participate by wearing red to work that day, and by attending the free luncheon. âGlenville State College is proud to be joining the American Heart Association and concerned companies and organizations across America in the fight against the number one killer of women as well as of men. Our âWear Red Dayâ luncheon is a chance for us to serve the local community by helping women learn about this devastating disease and what they can do to minimize their risks of heart disease,â said Williams.
Guest speakers for the luncheon will be Wesley Collins and Allison Maher from Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The pair will discuss heart health, specifically focusing on tips for women. Additionally, Minnie Hamilton Health Systems employee Sarah Harper will be on hand a half hour before the luncheon and afterward to provide free blood pressure testing.
The annual GSC âWear Red Dayâ luncheon is free and open to the public. Advance reservations are requested to help determine food and seating arrangements.
