Three Honored as Half-time Heroes at GSC Football Game
Three individuals were honored through a new ‘Half-time Heroes’ initiative during the Pioneer Football game on Saturday, September 16. Dennis Carpenter, Amanda (Mandy) Frymier, and Dr. Dwight Heaster were recognized and thanked for their efforts on campus, in the community, and in GSC’s service area. Half-time Heroes are individuals who bring recognition to GSC through their dedication and civic duties, which enhances the overall image of Glenville State College.
Date set for Dr. Tracy Pellett's Inauguration
The inauguration date for Glenville State College’s twenty-fourth president, Dr. Tracy L. Pellett, has been set. Pellett will be officially installed as GSC’s newest leader at the ceremony which will take place on Friday, November 10 at 4:00 p.m. in the College’s Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The public is invited.
Moreno Named GSC Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach
The Glenville State College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Sarah Moreno as the new Head Coach of the Lady Pioneers Acrobatics and Tumbling team.
Students Conduct Experiments during Solar Eclipse
During the solar eclipse on August 21 students in Glenville State College’s Forest Ecology course took the opportunity to incorporate their studies into the exciting and historic event.
GSC Students Collecting Shoes for Local Children
Students in Glenville State College’s PED 326 course (Teaching Physical Education in Elementary Schools) are currently collecting tennis shoes for elementary school students in Gilmer County and surrounding counties. The shoes will be used by students who don’t have access to a pair of gym shoes and by those who forget to bring a change of shoes for their physical education classes.
Fraternal Organization Donates Motorized Wheelchair to Student Veteran
A new Glenville State College student veteran is getting around campus a little easier this semester thanks to a quick-thinking employee and a local fraternal group. The student received a motorized wheelchair before the start of the fall semester courtesy of the Knights of Pythias Glade Lodge No. 205 located in Cowen, West Virginia.
Merical, Lowe to Serve as Co-Field Commanders for GSC's Marching Band
Two Glenville State College students will be serving as co-field commanders for the Pioneer ‘Wall of Sound’ Marching Band this semester. Evan Merical, a Millwood, West Virginia native, and Derrick Lowe, who hails from Chapmanville, West Virginia, will share the field commander duties. Together they are tasked with ensuring rehearsals run smoothly, helping the band director lead the band, and to keep up the morale of the band’s members.
Glenville State Mourns Loss of Student
Sadly, Glenville State College lost a family member today. Jonathan Knotts died in an automobile accident in Glenville this afternoon. Jonathan, a 19 year old sophomore from Philippi, West Virginia, was a 2016 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and was attending GSC to obtain a Science Education degree.
GSC Faculty Members Expand International Learning Opportunities with Summer Trips
Globetrotting faculty members from Glenville State College took several trips this summer, all of them orchestrated through the College’s Office of International Programs in efforts to bolster study abroad opportunities for GSC students and faculty and to expand GSC’s Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. These immersive opportunities for faculty were made possible by a Capacity Building Grant that GSC received from the U.S. Department of State and Partners of the Americas.
