GSC Students Sponsoring 'Trick or Reading Night' for Local Children
Students in the Glenville State College Early Education Student Group (EESG) will be hosting a free 'Trick or Reading Night' for area public school students. The event will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the third floor ballroom of the Mollohan Campus Community Center.
Guest Tuba and Euphonium Artist Coming to GSC
The Glenville State College Fine Arts Department will play host to George Palton for a guest artist tuba recital on Thursday, October 15 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The event will be open to the public and is free to attend.
American Chestnut Presentation at GSC on October 8
The Glenville State College Land Resources Department will be the site of a presentation on the history, collapse, and revival of the American chestnut tree. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Thursday, October 8 at 12:15 p.m. in room 227-228 of the Waco Center.
Town Hall Meeting on K-12 Education Standards Planned at GSC
The public is invited to take part in a town hall meeting to learn about and discuss West Virginia's academic standards and related topics. The meeting will take place on Thursday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Glenville State College's Mollohan Campus Community Center Room 315.
GSC Land Resources Student to Present Research Findings
Glenville State College senior Natural Resource Management and Forest Technology student Jesse Alborano will be presenting the findings of a study that was completed over the summer. The presentation is titled 'The Effect of Precipitation on the Diameter Growth of Native Tree Species in an Oak-Hickory Forest' and will take place on Thursday, September 24 at 12:15 p.m. in room 227-228 of GSC's Waco Center.
GSC Students Help RFK Library Recycle
Glenville State College students in Dr. Gary Arbogast’s GSC 100 class recently helped move over 100 boxes of old books being removed from the Robert F. Kidd Library. The books, which were hauled away for recycling, were out-of-date law books that have since been replaced by online resources.
Brief History of Jazz Presentation Happening at Historical Society Meeting
Jason Barr, Assistant Professor of Music at Glenville State College, will again hold a free performance at the Gilmer County Historical Society on Thursday, August 20 at a joint meeting with the Calhoun County Society. Barr's appearance at the meeting will provide the audience with a brief musical history of jazz. He performed a similar show at one of their meetings last year.
HSTA Campers Return to GSC
Again this year, Glenville State College was the site of a Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA) summer camp. The 2015 camp incorporated a presentation to Gilmer County Magistrate Carol Wolfe. Each group of students had to process a crime scene, analyze the evidence, and prepare a presentation regarding their evidence requesting an arrest warrant for their suspect. The presentations took place at the Gilmer County Court House.
