GLENVILLE, WV - The Social Science Department at Glenville State College recently held its annual Constitution and Citizenship Day celebration.
Students were invited to participate in an essay contest for the event, centering on the topic of what it takes to make a good citizen. Junior social studies education major and Burnsville, West Virginia resident Teddy Richardson took first place in the contest. Runners-up were Kaylee Howard and John Cockerham. Howard is a freshman criminal justice major from Hartford, West Virginia. Cockerham is a senior natural resource management student with majors in environmental science and land surveying technology from Belington, West Virginia.
In addition to hearing the top student essays, those in attendance were able to listen to a keynote speech by GSC English instructor Dr. Bob Henry Baber. Drawings for door prizes were held at the conclusion of the event.
The Glenville State College Department of Social Sciences and the West Virginia Zeta Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, the social science honor society, sponsored this year's Constitution Day at GSC. Later in the semester the group hopes to host West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant for a voting presentation and voter registration drive.
