GSC Smartphone App Launched for Students
Glenville State College has released its first official mobile application, MyGSC. The smartphone app was developed mainly by staff in the college’s Office of Technology and contains different features that allow students to access their academic records, campus directories, maps, and more.
GSC Participating in Second Chance Pell Program
Glenville State College has been named by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) as the only college in West Virginia to participate in the new Second Chance Pell pilot program. The program, which includes 66 other educational institutions across the United States, will allow eligible incarcerated Americans to receive Pell Grants and pursue postsecondary education with the goal of helping them get jobs and support their families when they are released. The program builds on the USDOE’s commitment to contribute to a more effective criminal justice system, reduce recidivism, and combat the impact of mass incarceration on families and communities through educational opportunity.
GSC Students Keep Learning During Summer
Summer is often a time of relaxation, trips to the beach, and Netflix binges. However, industrious students can look at summer as a time to continue working on their degree requirements and pursue other educational opportunities. Here are a few of the Glenville State College students who are spending at least part of their summer break completing internships and research projects.
Glenville State College President's Honor List for Spring 2016
Glenville State College has announced the names of GSC students who attained the President’s Honor List for the Spring 2016 semester. To be named to the President’s Honor List, a student must have a 4.0 grade point average on a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Ramezan Receives Student Leadership Award at GSC Commencement
Emily Ramezan, a 2016 Glenville State College graduate, was presented with the Student Leadership Award at GSC’s Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 7. She is the daughter of Dave and Janette Ramezan of Glenville, West Virginia.
Scholarships Awarded to GSC Students
Twenty-six Glenville State College students, including twenty-three incoming freshmen, have been awarded scholarships from the GSC Foundation for the 2016-2017 academic school year.
Mrs. Dora Heflin Remembered at GSC
Former Glenville State College First Lady Dora Morgan Heflin is being remembered on the GSC campus after passing away at her Morgantown, West Virginia home on Monday, May 30. She and her husband Dr. Harry B. Heflin served the college with distinction as first lady and president from 1947 to 1964. She was 103.
GSC Receives Invitation to Participate in U.S. Department of Education Dual Enrollment Experiment
Today, the U.S. Department of Education is inviting Glenville State College and 43 other postsecondary institutions across the nation to participate in an experiment that, for the first time, allows students taking college-credit courses to access Federal Pell Grants as early as high school. As part of this experiment, an estimated 10,000 high school students will have the opportunity to access approximately $20 million in Federal Pell Grants to take dual enrollment courses provided by colleges and high schools throughout the nation. GSC is the only higher education institution in West Virginia invited to participate.
