MyGSC AppGLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College has released its first official mobile application, MyGSC. The smartphone app was developed mainly by staff in the college’s Office of Technology and contains different features that allow students to access their academic records, campus directories, maps, and more.

The app, which has been in planning and development for a few years, aims to bring information that students need access to on a frequent basis right to their mobile devices. “The students who used the beta version of the app had very positive feedback. They liked that they were able to access their course schedules, view account holds, and update contact information right from their smartphones,” said GSC Database Administrator Chuck Schmidt. He took the lead on developing the app after attending a conference and hearing discussions what types of mobile apps other schools had in place.

“The release of this app helps keep GSC in step with what other colleges and universities around the country have available and provides a nice convenience to our students,” Schmidt continued. In addition to working with the IT staff, he has taught a cybercrime course in previous semesters as an adjunct. He graduated from GSC in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in computer and information systems and is preparing to transition to full-time instructor of developmental mathematics for the fall 2016 semester.

GSC’s app was developed using the Kryptos Mobile platform that is utilized by hundreds of other higher education institutions. Their system allows the colleges to service and customize the applications easily, without depending on an outside vendor.

The MyGSC app is compatible with Android and Apple smartphones and is available for download from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
