Final Exams

By Emily Salisbury

Final exams are upon us all and so is all the anxiety and stress that comes with them. The anxiety and stress usually feel unavoidable, but The Phoenix is going to help you and your friends get through it by giving some helpful advice on preparing for your finals.

Try to start studying before the night before your exam. Don’t try cramming in a semester’s worth of information in one night; that won’t help with stress or sleep. Try starting a study group and meet a few days on the week before finals. You can also try testing yourself. Make flashcards and throughout the day try quizzing yourself. Another tip is to write everything down. Rewrite your notes, quizzes, and tests. Writing something down can be equivalent to reading it seven times. You can also say what you’re writing out loud as you write it if you are an auditory learner, and if you are a visual learner reread everything you just rewrote. Cramming the night before the exam will also affect your sleeping schedule. You always want to try and aim for seven to nine hours of sleep, especially the night before an exam.

Going over your material the night before the exam is a good idea, but cramming all of the information in for the first time will only make the situation feel even more stressful. The night before an exam would be a good time to relax. Getting things finished before you need to can make life much easier.

Also, before you go and take your final exam make sure you know when and where it is. Final Examinations will begin on Monday, May 13 and will continue through Thursday, May 16 as outlined below. There will be no regular scheduled classes that week. The only time you will come to class will be to take your exam. Each exam will be held in the room where the class has been meeting. To get your exam schedule please refer to the exam chart below.
