The sixth annual Trillium Art Show will be held in the Fine Arts Center Gallery from February 13 through February 17. The opening reception will be held on Valentine’s Day, February 14, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Throughout the week, the show will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The show is curated by art student Sierra Wood and facilitated by Professor Chris Cosner, who oversees the gallery. Dr. Marjorie Stewart. will be assisting from the Department of Language and Literature. The Trillium Art Show is cosponsored by the Glenville State University Departments of Language and Literature and Fine Arts.
Wood said that the show will take all the art that physically fits in the gallery. There is no theme for the show so that artists won't feel limited. "I've always thought of The Trillium as an opportunity for anyone to submit their artwork."
Wood was inspired to curate the show by the influence she's seen it have on students over the years she has been at Glenville. "I think this will be a great help to my career for many reasons: planning and organizing small to medium scale events with ideas and opinions from colleagues further exposes me to the wild and untamable nature of artists and their works - and I find new ways to appreciate them."
Trillium sponsor Jonathan Minton said, "GSU has an incredibly talented creative arts community, and I enjoy doing my small part to help promote and showcase the very fine work of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni." Minton started the art show in 2018 to give extra attention to artists who were regularly featured in The Trillium print edition. "There is something incredibly joyful and empowering in creating something and sharing it with others," Minton continued. "There are a lot of problems in the world today, and while art cannot necessarily solve them, it can certainly help us feel better and think a little more clearly about the world around us."
Marjorie Stewart is serving as the art sponsor for The Trillium and The Trillium art show this year. "Dr. Minton started the art show around the same time I started painting," she said. "I'm excited about learning how to hang a show."
Submissions for the art show must be turned in at the Fine Arts Building between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday by Wednesday, February 8. All media are welcome, including sculpture, painting, drawings, photography, and fiber arts.
Submissions to The Trillium, Glenville State University's literary and arts journal, will be accepted until March 1. All GSU students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members are invited to submit visual art, poetry, fiction, song lyrics and other forms of creative expression. Submissions should be sent as an attachment to Trillium@Glenville.edu. Written submissions should be attached as a single .doc, .docx, or .rtf file. Visuals should be attached as .jpg, .png, .bmp, or .gif files. Submissions should include a brief biographical note. The annual Trillium reading will be scheduled later this semester.
