The Mountain East Conference (MEC) championship meet will be held at Glenville State, Ike Morris Stadium on this upcoming weekend on May 1 through the 3. We will be joined in competition by the schools Alderson Broaddus, Frostburg State (Maryland), Concord, Davis & Elkins, West Liberty, West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeling, Charleston, WVSU, and Fairmont State Track Club. These teams are battling through running and field events to gain points for the men and women’s sides to become the 2022 Outdoor MEC Champions.

Glenville State University’s Track and Field teams have been working hard through the 2021 summer up until now, working for this very moment. I was able to get some insight on how these athletes are feeling and how prepared they are for these big days coming up.

Nathaniel Wheeler, a super senior who majors in chemistry, believes their overall season went quite well and stated that the men’s team is being seen as the underdogs coming into this championship meet. Drake Dunn, a junior in which majors in Computer Information System. He is one of the decathletes on the team which is a 10-event track event, done over the span of two days. Dunn said this event is a hard and challenging event but feels the team has helped him a lot to get through it.

The team has a new head coach this year, Dan Meyers. Wheeler and Dunn say he has made a great impact by bringing new aspects and energy for the team to build on. The men’s team is currently ranked fifth, but Wheeler believes that if he and his teammates can work up to what they know they are capable of , they could pull out with fourth or third place.
