The Little Kanawha Reading Series is happy to present a faculty reading on October 15 at 4 p.m. in the RFK Library.
Readers include Dr. Mark Manchin, Glenville State College’s26th president. His career in education includes a life-long dedication to literature and the arts. “I have not read for The Little Kanawha Reading Series before," Manchin said. "Being new to the campus this will be my first time reading. But I’m very excited.”
Dr. Ed Wood, having written one book, Mud: A Military History, and a chapter for another, is not a prolific writer but he has been an avid reader since a young age, “ Wow, when you are a dinosaur reading is about all one had. I enjoyed tv, but it usually spurred me to dig deeper into whatever it was that I watched. I remember having a passion for reading by at least the third grade.”.
Jesse Skiles, a 1987 GSC graduate, coached track and cross country for 29 years before returning to GSC as Director of Athletics. He worked as a writer for the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram for 21 years and is the author of "Mountaineer Dreams" and "DuPont Football History, 1939-1998." Skiles said “The piece for the reading are some pages from 'Mountaineer Dreams.' It is a story about growing up in rural southern West Virginia.”
The event will be hosted by Jason Gum, the RFK Library Director, who received the “History Hero” award from the WV Division of Culture and History and was named the 2019 GSC Staff Employee of the Year.
