On graduation day May 18th, there will be a variety of music played by the GSC fine arts department. The program is very scripted in its structure, but Dr. Bone has free range to choose what songs will be played during the ceremony. The instrumental band will consist of members of the concert band, pep band, and marching band. There will be a prelude played as people walk in about 5 minutes before the ceremony starts. The prelude is always a song that has been played by the band at some point during the semester. This year, it will be a selection from the pops concert entitled Folk Rhapsody #4, which contains American folk songs such as Little Brown Jug, Down In the Valley, and Rosey Mill. During the march in, the band will play Pomp and Circumstance. Afterward, the chamber singers will sing the National Anthem, Home Among the Hills (A Gilmer County original), and the Alma Mater. After the ceremony, a bagpipes player will play the platform party. The band will then play the graduates out with Pomp and Circumstance. Once the event is over, the band will play one last song together. It will be one of the 80s medleys from earlier in the year.
