The 2019 Pioneer Showcase started at 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 18. The Pioneer Showcase is a local competition in which participants present their class projects in all disciplines in a formal setting. The forum is open to all students enrolled at Glenville State College. Those who were accepted into the showcase were required to give a 15-minute presentation or display their work or a poster in the Mollohan.
I attended the Pioneer Showcase, representing The Phoenix, at different times of the day, and so I got to see different types of displays, posters, and presentations.
The first set-up I saw when first walking in at almost 11 a.m. was "Encouraging Young Children's Curiosity Through Exploration and Discovery Activities" presented by Carissa Yoak, Holly Wilson, and Abby McCarty. The presenters spoke about four books that could help children in exploring various activities. The books were How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow by Monica Sweeney, As an Oak Tree Grows by G. Brian Karas, How Do Penguins Play? by Elizabeth Domeby, and finally, Warning: Do Not Open This Book by Ada Lehraupt. The presenters explained how each book incorporate math, science, or art, and how to incorporate the children's parents.
I was also able to briefly listen to a presentation "The Transportable Black History Display for K-6" presented by Haley Cottrill, Cali Hayes, Cheyenna Henderson, Faith Norris, John O'Hara, John, Tobi Short, Karra Smith, and McKenze Yanero.
At this year's Pioneer Showcase there seemed to be something for everyone to enjoy - even if it was just enjoying the refreshments that were offered.
