On Tuesday, April 4, the Fine Arts Department will be holding its audition day for high-schoolers hoping to join the fine arts program at Glenville. The day will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. The schedule will be as follows:
8-9: Registration
9-10: Campus tour
10-11: Meet and greet with the Fine Arts faculty
11-12: Concerts by GSC ensembles
12-1: Lunch
1-4: Auditions
According to Dr. Lloyd Bone, chair of the fine arts department, “Students perform scales, solos, and other musical elements and are asked various questions in an interview.” The interview helps to get an idea of the prospective student’s background and work ethic. There are usually about 20-30 students who show up for audition day. On average, the students auditioning are among the better musicians from their high schools, most of whom pass the audition process. Sometimes the auditioning students are transferring from another college, but most are freshmen coming from high schools. The range of instruments varies widely, with instruments as rare as the didgeridoo auditioning. The most common instruments, however, are brass or woodwinds. The fine arts department looks forward to meeting its new students.
