Upon finding out about a possible fee being charged to the students of Glenville State College to help pay for a winter commencement, The Phoenix asked seniors who are preparing to graduate how they felt about this change.
Most of the seniors who were questioned wished to remain anonymous in their replies.
One senior felt as though this change isn’t a bad one and that the fee is worth it. He says, “Paying a small fee would be worth it to allow students to graduate when they are supposed to instead of waiting almost half a year for another commencement.”
Another senior stated, “Since it wouldn’t be such a hefty amount to pay, I really don’t have any problem with the proposed fee, but I can understand why some other students may have different feelings about the fee since we’re already paying so much to be here.”
However, there were some seniors who believed that the college shouldn’t be asking the students to pay for another student’s graduation, especially since there will be another one in a few months.
One states, “I would rather wait until spring commencement than give the college any more of my money.”
And our final senior, Emily Salisbury said, “Even though I’m set to graduate winter of 2020, I would be glad to wait until spring of 2021 and would rather do so, if it meant that I didn’t have to pay more money than I already am.”
The Phoenix appreciates everyone who was willing to voice their opinions on this issue and encourages others to do the same.
