West Virginia Authors to Present at GSC Workshop
Three authors of works set in West Virginia will be visiting Glenville State College on Tuesday, August 2, as part of a five-day workshop for 25 middle school teachers. The authors will discuss their work and how it relates to connecting subject content and local communities. The teachers of grades 6-8 who are attending the workshop are primarily instructors of reading, social studies, and math. Content material will include historical and informational texts that are specific to West Virginia. Participants will create and share cross-curricular lessons for the various resources they will receive for their classrooms.
GSC Invites Community to Help Welcome Incoming Students
To help the new students learn about the Glenville community—including local businesses, churches, and other groups that might interest them—GSC is hosting a Community and Campus Organization Fair.
Hidden Promise Program Now in All WV Counties
Since the early stages of Glenville State College’s Hidden Promise program, both college officials and public school administrators have had the same common desires for students in the Mountain State: increase the high school and college graduation rates, better prepare them for college enrollment, encourage increased college attendance, and improve their overall success in pursuits of higher education.
Mrs. Dora Heflin Remembered at GSC
Former Glenville State College First Lady Dora Morgan Heflin is being remembered on the GSC campus after passing away at her Morgantown, West Virginia home on Monday, May 30. She and her husband Dr. Harry B. Heflin served the college with distinction as first lady and president from 1947 to 1964. She was 103.
GSC Receives Invitation to Participate in U.S. Department of Education Dual Enrollment Experiment
Today, the U.S. Department of Education is inviting Glenville State College and 43 other postsecondary institutions across the nation to participate in an experiment that, for the first time, allows students taking college-credit courses to access Federal Pell Grants as early as high school. As part of this experiment, an estimated 10,000 high school students will have the opportunity to access approximately $20 million in Federal Pell Grants to take dual enrollment courses provided by colleges and high schools throughout the nation. GSC is the only higher education institution in West Virginia invited to participate.
Two Registration Events Planned for GSC
Glenville State College invites future Pioneers to attend two upcoming Registration Days on Saturday, May 21 and Saturday, June 18 beginning at 9:00 a.m. on the GSC campus.
Rule Named New Pioneer Mascot
Valerie Rule, an upcoming sophomore from Webster Springs, West Virginia, has been named the Glenville State College Pioneer Mascot for the 2016-2017 school year.
Mother's Day Brunch Scheduled at GSC
Everyone is invited to the annual Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Mollohan’s Restaurant at Glenville State College.
