The West Virginia Dance Company (WVDC) is set to perform at Glenville State College on April 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium. This concert is free and open to the campus community and the general public. The thirty-three year old organization is the only professional touring dance company in the history of the state. The professional dancers travel the state presenting original modern dance works for audiences of all ages. The West Virginia Dance Company recently received the 2010 WV Governorâs Arts in Education Award for excellence in educational programming and service.
The Glenville State concert features new works choreographed by Co-Artistic Directors Donald Laney and Toneta Akers-Toler. WVDC members will also perform Gerri Houlihanâs celebrated dance work titled â4 x 4â considered an American Masterpiece. Ms. Houlihan set her dance work on the WVDC dancers last fall when her visit to Beckley was made possible through a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History. Rounding out the concert is a dance work by Lewisburg choreographer/ dancer Carli Mareneck.
