Curriculum materialsGLENVILLE, WV - A free workshop for K-12 teachers of all disciplines, including both preservice and in-service instructors, will be held at Glenville State College on Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14. The workshop will focus on Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project Water Education for Teachers (WET), which has been endorsed by the National Science Teachers Association and added to their list of the best supplements available for science teaching. Attendees will receive copies of both PLT and Project WET Curriculum Resources. The curriculum materials are designed for K-12 instruction and are cross discipline.

The trainings on Friday will take place from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. with a break; Saturday events run between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with a coffee break in the morning.

Advance registration is required by e-mailing Joe.Evans@glenville.edu. A minimum of ten participants is required for the two-day workshop.

PLT teaches students how to think, not what to think about complex environmental issues. Recognized as a leader in environmental education for 40 years, PLT enhances critical thinking, problem solving, and effective decision-making skills. PLT's professional development is carefully designed to create effective learning experiences. PLT's award-winning, multi-disciplinary curriculum materials are hands-on and fun, and aligned with state and national education standards. More than half of all PLT activities can be conducted outdoors.

The award-winning, NSTA-recommended Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide 2.0 continues Project WET’s dedication to 21st-century, cutting-edge water education. Correlated to Common Core Standards and with correlations to Next Generation Science Standards underway, the Curriculum and Activity Guide 2.0 gives educators of children from kindergarten to twelfth grade the tools they need to integrate water education into every school subject. The guide also includes numerous extensions for using the activities in Pre-K environments. Featuring 64 field-tested activities, more than 500 color photographs and illustrations, and useful appendices with information on teaching methods, assessment strategies, and more, this guide is an essential classroom tool and an excellent resource for pre-service teachers.
