menuVada Woodford, Director of Fundraising, has been named recipient of the 2024 Staff Rising Star Award.
Nominations for the award described Woodford as “proactive,” “helpful,” and “always willing to take on new challenges.” It has been noted that she approaches her work with a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn and grown. Woodford has impressed many around campus with her positive attitude and friendly demeanor. She is often seen pitching in to help others, even with things that aren’t directly related to her main duties.
Growing up in Cox Mills, Woodford is a graduate of Gilmer County High School, Class of 1999. She received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with specialization in Early Childhood as well as a Master’s Degree in Reading from West Virginia University. She has her English Literature Certification, Principles and Techniques of Fundraising course certification, and is a National Board-Certified Teacher. Woodford had 17 years in public education before coming to Glenville State University in August of 2022 as the Director of Fundraising in the Foundations Office.
“My favorite thing about working here would be the people. Whether it is the people I work with or the people I meet through the various athletic, alumni, and other campus and community events, they are all amazing. I learn so much just talking and listening to them. I especially love it when I’m talking to a donor or alumni, and I find out we have a connection through family, friends, or just a love of Glenville.”
In her free time, she enjoys being at home out in the country - giving her the options to hunt, fish, take a walk or enjoy a smore around the firepit. Woodford said, “I love being there with my family which includes Lance, Bristol, and Ella, it is so peaceful.”
Woodford becomes the 2024 recipient of this award and helps to provide a standard for future winners.
