GLENVILLE, WV - Local residents are invited to join Glenville State College and the American Heart Association for the 11th anniversary celebration of âWear Red Day.â The GSC campus will be the site of a free âWear Red Dayâ Luncheon on Tuesday, February 25th at 12:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. The event will be one of many scheduled around the state and nation to raise awareness about heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in America.
According to American Heart Association officials, events held as part of the American Heart Associationâs âWear Red Dayâ encourage awareness of heart disease and actions to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion, and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.
GSCâs Campus Health Nurse and event organizer Ronda Williams is encouraging everyone, men and women, to participate by wearing red to work that day, and by attending the free luncheon. âGlenville State College is proud to be joining the American Heart Association and concerned companies and organizations across America in the fight against the number one killer of women as well as of men. Our âWear Red Dayâ luncheon is a chance for us to serve the local community by helping women learn about this devastating disease and what they can do to minimize their risks of heart disease,â said Williams.
The guest speaker for the luncheon will be Family Nurse Practitioner Kim Houchin from Minnie Hamilton Health Systems in Grantsville, West Virginia. She will be discussing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Additionally, Minnie Hamilton Health Systems employees will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. until the luncheon begins to provide free blood pressure testing and weight and body mass index measurements.
The annual GSC âWear Red Dayâ luncheon is free and open to the public. Advance reservations are requested to help with food preparation and seating arrangements.
