GLENVILLE, WV – Kyle Warner, a 2014 Glenville State College Accounting and Management graduate, was presented with the Student Leadership Award at GSC's Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10th. He is the son of James Warner of Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia and is a 2009 graduate of Braxton County High School.

"Considering the several other graduates who had the right qualifications for this award, it was a very humbling experience when my name was called at commencement. Receiving this award is very special to me – it makes me feel that all my late nights of studying, intense football practices, and rigorous days in general have paid off.  It's very pleasing to know that all my leadership qualities and accomplishments haven't gone unnoticed over my five year career. It's an honor and a privilege to represent Glenville State College and all the graduating class of 2014," said Warner.

Nominations from fellow students and faculty members highlighted Warner's qualifications. A student called his college career, "nothing short of amazing." Another referred to him as, "the perfect candidate for the award."

During his GSC career, Warner was a member of the Pioneer Football Team for five years. He was a three year starter at defensive end and the 2013 team captain. He was also a Resident Assistant at Pioneer Village for four years, President of GSC's Professional Business Leaders organization, and a business tutor for Student Support Services on campus. He also was recognized by GSC's Business Department as the Outstanding Accounting Student and was honored with the Ernest H. Smith award for being the graduating business student with the highest grade point average. Additionally, he was a public school mentor for two years at Glenville Elementary School.

In the time leading up to his GSC graduation, Warner was a highly sought after job candidate – he had three offers from different accounting firms in the Charleston area. He recently signed a contract to begin working with the one of the top four largest accounting firms in the world, Ernst and Young. He begins his employment with them at their Charleston location in October of 2014.

"I credit my father for being a great influence in my life; he's made me the man I've become today. I also appreciate all of the instructors in GSC's Business Department who have trusted in me and molded me. I plan to move forward in my career and transition my hard work ethic from the classroom over to the corporate world. I will do my best to represent Glenville State College," concluded Warner.

In his spare time Warner is an avid bass fisherman. He also enjoys working out, lifting weights, and health and nutrition.
