GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State College student Kristie Taylor will present her senior recital on Sunday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
Taylor will perform on the trumpet and be accompanied by Anita White on the piano. The recital will include classical pieces with a jazz and pop style tune to round out the show. On the last song of the concert, Taylor will be joined by Brittany Koutsunis on the baritone saxophone, Colton Allanson on the alto saxophone, Jeremy Carter on trombone, Gabe French on tuba, Jacob Lutsy on drum set, and Marcus Spinks on auxiliary percussion.
Taylor was the fall 2019 Marching Band Field Commander, an experience she calls the highlight of her semester. “I have absorbed so much information and honed several skills from my time as field commander that I will take with me to use in my own classroom one day. Dr. [Lloyd] Bone has been the greatest mentor. He and the students in the marching band have made my semester. They are so hard working and talented. They have put in so much effort for us to have a successful show this year. I just cannot be more proud and thankful for them,” said Taylor.
She is the daughter of Robert and Leilani Taylor and Nancy Taylor. She is a native of Clay County, West Virginia and plans to pursue a career in the West Virginia public school system after graduation. Throughout her four years at GSC, Taylor has been a member of the GSC Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Brass Ensemble, and Trumpet Ensemble.
“There are so many professors to thank who have molded me into the young professional that I am today. Mr. Harry Rich has taught me so much – learning how to not only play the trumpet, but how to make music my life. Jason Barr, Lloyd Bone, John McKinney, David Lewis, and Teresa Dody have all taught me so much over the past four years that I will be eternally grateful for. They have truly been a family away from home. They will forever be the biggest contributing factors for me having a successful life,” Taylor added.
“The Glenville community supports the arts immensely and I can’t count how many community members come out to see our concerts and recitals. Not only the community, but even many professors from the college love coming to support our performances. It means a great deal to each and every one of us,” said Taylor.
Her recital is free and open to the public.
