Glenville, WV -- An especially warm and sunny October day played host to the GSC Sigma Tau Deltaâs bake sale fundraising event on
Tuesday, October 2nd. Members of this English honor society gathered in the Glenville State College Amphitheatre to sell many various homemade goods.
By Wednesday afternoon, Sigma Tau Delta had sold the last few leftovers from the bake sale bringing their grand total to $125 of profit.
Jenny James, Sigma Tau Delta member, comments, âI would have been pleased with raising about $80, which would cover the cost of honor cords for graduation. However, we had a great turnout for the event, and profits exceeded my expectations.â
One of the more popular items of bake sale was the red velvet cupcakes. James reports, âA large number of people came to the bake sale asking specifically for the cupcakes that GSC History Professor Dr. Ed Wood highly recommends. The item that sold the fastest was pepperoni rolls made by my mother Linda James. Many people remarked on the freshness and excellent taste of the pepperoni rolls.â
Dr. Wood said, âThe bake sale sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta was as delectable as I imagined it would be. The quality of the treats lived up to the standard I have come to expect. What I and Dr. DeWitt found enchanting were the spectacular decorations of the cupcakes. The velvet sprinkles on some treats and cookies on others only accentuated the savory experience of that day.â He continues, âI hope that the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta, bake sales become a more frequent festivity.â
In response to Dr. Woodâs hope for more bake sales, James states, âWe may very likely have another bake sale. As a new organization, our funds are limited. Give us some time to recuperate, and Sigma Tau Delta may organize another bake sale before the Christmas break.â
Sigma Tau Delta would like to extend a special thanks to all of the GSC students, faculty, and staff as well as Glenville community members who stopped by the bake sale to support the English honor society. The group would also like to show appreciation to local businesses U-Pak and Fredâs Country Store who donated supplies for the bake sale.
