REAP logoGLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College has received one of the 35 West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Rehabilitation Environmental Action Program (REAP) Recycling Assistance Grant Program awards.

GSC received over $30,000 to purchase recycling collection bins for campus offices and residence halls, large compartmented collection containers, and the installation of a concrete pad for the containers.

"We plan to utilize this generous grant from the DEP to help enhance the campus wide recycling initiatives that are already in place here at GSC. Our students, faculty, and staff have asked for stepped-up efforts in recycling everyday items like bottles, cans, and paper and the large sorting containers, which we hope to install in a more centralized location on campus, should make it easier for everyone to get involved," said Joanna DiStefano who heads up recycling efforts on campus.

According to information from the DEP, 2015 marks the 24th year for the recycling grant program. Since the program's inception, including this year's awards, REAP has awarded more than $36 million dollars to various organizations across the Mountain State. Funding for the Recycling Assistance Grant Program is generated through the $1 assessment fee per ton of solid waste disposed at in-state landfills.
