Past Glenville State College Pioneer basketball players, coaches, cheerleaders, and athletic support staff are invited to the site of their past glories as the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Charleston Lions Club celebrates fifty years of championship hoops at the Charleston Civic Center on March 6, 2010.

A series of events, sponsored by the WVIAC and individual schools, will take place around the Saturday, March 6th Men’s and Women’s WVIAC Tournament title contests. Glenville State College, along with all WVIAC member schools, will each have a registration table in the upper lobby of the Civic Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6th to welcome alumni tournament participants, past GSC head coaches, past GSC assistant coaches, and past athletic support staff. Each of these attendees will be presented with a complimentary ticket to the championship session that night along with a commemorative memento upon registration. Additional tickets at $8.00 each, for friends and family, may be purchased from the GSC Athletic Department in advance of the games by contacting that office at (304) 462-4102 with your payment information. All ticket(s) will be held and can be picked up at Glenville State’s table at the Civic Center on March 6th.

This registration area will remain open until halftime of the men’s championship game that evening. Glenville State College and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference hope that alumni participants, past coaches, and past coaches’ assistants will take advantage of this common registration area to renew past friendships and acquaintances. This area will also allow for interaction among past WVIAC alumni participants from other schools who have been involved in WVIAC tournament play over the past fifty years.

Inside the arena, seating sections will be marked for each school allowing for old teammates to gather. During halftime of both the men’s and women’s championship game, past WVIAC alumni participants from each school will be asked to stand and be recognized as a tribute to their participation in the tournament.

This season’s WVIAC basketball championships begin on Monday, March 1st with women’s first round play on campus sites. Men’s first round action is slated for Tuesday, March 2nd on campus sites. The excitement will move to the Charleston Civic Center for women’s quarterfinal play on Wednesday, March 3rd and men’s quarterfinal play on Thursday, March 4th. Semifinal play for both the women’s and men’s teams will be on Friday, March 5th with the WVIAC Tournament title contests on Saturday, March 6th.

To help in the planning process of this historic event, R.S.V.P.s are strongly encouraged. Although if you don’t realize until the last minute that you will be able to attend – come anyway.

In addition to these events, the Glenville State College Alumni Association will be sponsoring a hospitality room in parlor ‘A’ of the Charleston Civic Center. The room will be open one hour before, during halftime, and one hour after all WVIAC Tournament games involving GSC Pioneer teams. All alumni, fans, and friends are invited to attend.
