Old Time Music Night Continues at GSC
Sat Mar 31, 2007

Old Time MusicBluegrass music is as much a part of Appalachian heritage as are the hills themselves. Many people live and breathe this old time music. For many citizens, the town of Glenville is no different. The annual West Virginia Folk Festival is a prime example with over 3,500 visitors annually coming from all over to take part in jam sessions, banjo and fiddle contests and square dancing. One does not have to wait in anticipation of the third Thursday in June for this merriment to occur since Old Time Music Night now occurs weekly at Glenville State College!

These jam sessions had been taking place for several years around town and then found a temporary home at Coffee & Friends in Glenville. Old Time Music Night took place on Friday evenings and always had a full house. However, upon the closure of Coffee & Friends, Old Time Music night was lacking a home. What were old time music lovers to do?

Glenville State’s dining services along with Buddy Griffin, Director of Cultural Events, formed a partnership to bring Old Time Music Night to GSC. “[It is] a nice gesture from the college” Buddy Griffin said in response to Old Time Music Night’s invitation to relocate to the Rusty Musket. Old Time Music Night can now be located at the Rusty Musket in the newly renovated Mollohan Campus Community Center. This event takes place on Friday nights starting at 7:00 p.m. There are no admission fees and everyone is welcome to attend.

Griffin added “Old Time Music Night is a way to get the community involved with the college.” So come out and enjoy a living part of Appalachian heritage! For more information, contact Griffin at 462-7361 extension 7342, or Stephan Shattuck, Director of Dining Services at 462-7361 extension 7740.
