GLENVILLE, WV - The Glenville State College family has welcomed several new staff members over the last semester. The following are among some of those new employees. Others will be introduced periodically.

Yoshi AbeName: Yoshikatsu (Yoshi) Abe from Kanagawa, Japan.

What are you doing in your position at GSC? Athletic Trainer, primarily for Volleyball, Acrobatics & Tumbling, Softball, and Baseball.

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: Badlands National Park in South Dakota

Hobbies? Cooking

Favorite candy bar? Kit-kat

Sport team you’ll always root for? LOTTE, a Japanese professional baseball team

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? The small community and friendly environment.

Education: BS in Athletic Training, National American University; MS in Athletic Training, University of Northern Iowa


Janie CastleJanie Castle who hails from Meally, Kentucky.

What are you doing in your position at GSC? I am the Project Director of Student Support Services and just started as an adjunct faculty member this semester.

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: Very difficult question, because I love to travel! Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Any pets? Three cats: Winston, 13; Loretta, 5; Henry, 3

Hobbies? Hiking, tent camping, reading, and cooking

Favorite candy bar? Peanut M&Ms and Reese’s Cups

Sport team you’ll always root for? I have been converted to a WVU Mountaineer fan.

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? I like small, rural towns. Glenville feels like home.

Something Interesting That Others May Not Know About You? As an undergrad, I worked on a project sequencing the DNA of an endangered species of goldenrod plant. Also, I am a first-generation college graduate.

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky; Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Biology and English from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky; Juris Doctor from Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia.

Academic accomplishments/professional awards: I’m a certified public school teacher in Kentucky and a licensed attorney in Virginia. In law school I graduated third in my class, magna cum laude; was the best oral advocate; placed second in a national moot court competition; had a law review note published in Appalachian School of Law Natural Resources Law Journal; and served on the Law Review Executive Board.

What are you doing in your position at GSC? Resident Director at Pioneer Village

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: New Orleans, Louisiana

Any pets? A 13-year-old black lab named Chloe

Hobbies: Singing, softball, traveling, and volunteering

Favorite candy bar? Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate with Almonds Bar

Sports team you’ll always root for? The Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Marshall Thundering Herd

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? The sense of community and the welcoming spirit I have received since arriving on campus.

Something Interesting That Others May Not Know About You? I ride Harley Davidson motorcycles and hate touching food.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University

Something you do to unwind after a long day? Sleepytime tea, slow music, a good book, Netflix, or a FaceTime date with my family and dog.

Something Interesting That Others May Not Know About You? I’m a diehard motocross fan and started racing motocross at the age of five.
