GLENVILLE, WV - The Glenville State College family has welcomed several new faculty members over the last semester. The following are among some of those new professors. Others will be introduced periodically.

Kayleigh HuckKayleigh Huck from Delaware, Ohio.

What are you teaching at GSC? Developmental Mathematics

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: I traveled to Paris with my dad when I was a junior in high school and had a wonderful time. I loved seeing all the museums and historical landmarks, along with the shopping! I want to go back again at some point.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a college professor? If I wasn’t a college professor I would more than likely be teaching in the public school systems (middle school science or middle school mathematics) and would probably be coaching softball as well.

Any pets? Back home I have a crazy, lovable dog named Zoey. She’s part chow, part golden retriever making for a fun and adorable dog.

Hobbies? I enjoy sports, both playing, watching, and coaching. I am also artistic, enjoying crafting, coloring, painting, sewing, etc. And I like to cook.

Favorite candy bar? 3 Musketeer or Reese Cup

TV show you can’t miss? Chopped, Project Runway, and anything on HGTV

Sport team you’ll always root for? Ohio State Football

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? I love the close-knit environment and the small town feel Glenville has. Having graduated from here I can tell you first-hand that people both at the college and in the community look out for you not only as a student but as a person as well. I also like all of the opportunity that Glenville State College has brought me in my life for being so young.

Education (degree/where): BAED Glenville State College with specializations in Middle School Mathematics (5-9), Middle School Science (5-9), and Elementary Education (K-6).

Dr. Marisha Lecea

Marisha Lecea, Ph.D. who is from Michigan.

What are you teaching at GSC? Political Science

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: Too many to choose from! I love to travel to see friends and family, and I’ve had some great trips to Japan, Spain, China, and the Philippines. At the same time, I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon or Seattle, so those are on my to-do list.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a college professor? I love teaching, so it’s hard for me to imagine myself doing anything else. I could see working in advocacy or policy, or focusing more on writing and publishing.

Any pets? I have a dog and a cat. The cat adopted me, the dog I chose.

Education: PhD from Western Michigan University, MA from Western Michigan University, BA from the University of Notre Dame. I’ve also done some various trainings at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and a study abroad in Toledo, Spain.

Professional research area: My research focuses on citizenship policies around the world. In some countries, it is easy to gain or have citizenship, while other countries make it really difficult to be a citizen. Because being a citizen is necessary to enjoy a full range of human rights, access to citizenship is really important. I study why democratic countries can be so different and what this means for the people who live in those countries. As part of my work, I was invited to speak in the Dominican Republic last October.

Favorite candy bar? I love the seasonal or region specific treats available in Japan – so when I go there I always bring back lots of treats and snacks.

TV show you can’t miss? I make a point to watch all the Doctor Who episodes I can.

Sport team you’ll always root for? I don’t follow sports that much, but I like attending games and look forward to watching the GSC Pioneers here in Glenville.

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? Without doubt, the people. The community has been very warm and welcoming, and the students impress me as polite and hard working.

Dr. Jeremy KeeneDr. Jeremy Keene who is originally from Rogersville, Missouri.

What are you teaching at GSC? Principles of Biology, Botany, Ecology, Plant Physiology, and Techniques of Science

Favorite place you’ve traveled to: Overall, I really enjoyed Europe. In West Virginia, so far I have enjoyed visiting the mountains.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a college professor? I would be traveling around South America or China looking for plants.

Any pets? One dog, Lizzie

Hobbies? Gardening, biking, hiking, and collecting comic books

Favorite candy bar? Twix

TV show you can’t miss? Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead

What is your favorite thing about GSC and the Glenville community? I enjoy how kind and inviting everyone has been.

Something Interesting That Others May Not Know About You? I like building Lego sets.

Education: Ph.D. from Ohio University

Academic research interests: My research interests are broadly in the evolution of plants. I specifically study the genus Monopyle (Gesneriaceae) and have named four new species, so far.

Something you do to unwind after a long day? It really depends on the day. I tend to unwind by reading or occasionally playing games.
