Mountain Fury

Mountain Fury, the first professional bluegrass band coming out of Glenville State College’s Bluegrass Certificate Program, will be performing in the College’s Fine Arts Building Auditorium on Saturday, April 28th from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. as part of Alumni Day activities. They will also be performing a few numbers at the evening’s popular Alumni Banquet.

The group is comprised of Rachel Singleton of Summersville, Eileen Marsh of Sunnyside, and Lincoln, GA natives and twin sisters, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Long ’04 and Rebekah Long. They all perform vocals with Rebekah playing the upright base; Lizzie, the banjo, fiddle and autoharp; Rachel, the mandolin; and Eileen the guitar.

Elizabeth has traveled and played with several nationally recognized groups including The Lewis Family, Valerie Smith, Liberty Pike and Angelina McKethon. She currently lives in Nashville.

Rebekah is a senior music major at GSC. She lives in Nashville also and helps famed gospel music singer, songwriter, and record producer, Ben Speer, run a recording studio when she is not in school.

Rachel and Eileen are senior music majors at GSC as well. Rachel was the 2003 WV State Mandolin Champion and the 2005 runner-up. Both are active in various music groups on campus.

Mountain Fury has one recording “Some Sweet Day” and is in the process of recording a second CD. The group is quickly making a name for themselves in several states having performed at the Wheeling Jamboree, various fairs and festivals in South Carolina, West Virginia and Tennessee, as well as in several area churches in central West Virginia.
