GLENVILLE, WV – Continuing in his efforts to ‘hold the line’ on costs relating to higher education, Glenville State College President Dr. Tracy Pellett announced on Tuesday that the institution would be making changes to its residential and commuter meal plans to financially benefit students.
The College’s Board of Governors approved a resolution to reduce the cost of a residential meal plan by $100 for the academic year compared to last year. The Board also voted to eliminate the mandatory $100 annual meal plan for commuting students. The College will still provide the option for commuters to purchase the plan if they so choose.
“While $100 may not sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things, it’s a tangible and real savings. Putting money back in the pockets of students allows them to be more responsive to their own needs,” Pellett said. “Simply stated, Glenville State College is committed to continuing to streamline the way we operate and put students and families first. While we sincerely hope that our state’s leaders will once again invest in the future of West Virginia through greater state appropriations, families and students should know that we will continue to work hard in making college affordable,” he continued.
In addition to the announcement benefitting students, Pellett noted that faculty and staff will now be able to receive a $20 flex cash bonus when they purchase $100 for use at campus dining facilities.
The announcement followed a special Board of Governors meeting that was held to discuss the College’s meal plan options for students.
Last month, Pellett announced that Glenville State College would not be increasing tuition for the 2017-18 academic year, in fact, symbolically cutting the tuition amount by a dollar.
