Glenville, WV â Buddy Griffin, GSC Instructor of Music, was presented with the 2011 Vandalia Award at Glenville State Collegeâs commencement ceremony on May 14th. West Virginia Division of Culture and History Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith presented Griffin with the award for âdistinguishing himself as a musician, entertainer, educator, mentor, and advocate for bluegrass and traditional country music.â
Griffin served as a volunteer to the GSC Fine Arts Department from 1997-2002, and has been a full-time employee ever since. Sutton is his hometown but he now resides in Coxâs Mill, WV. He is alum of Glenville State College and a regular on the Grand Ole Opry Stage in Nashville, Tennessee.
âI feel as though teaching young folks about their traditional musical heritage is my best position in my life. I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love and Glenville State College has made that possible,â Griffin stated.
Griffin was officially honored during the annual Vandalia Gathering on May 27th at the West Virginia Cultural Center.
