Glenville, WV – Twelve students have completed their student teaching internships for Glenville State College. They graduated from GSC on Saturday, May 9 as part of the college’s virtual commencement ceremony.
Miranda Allen of Alma, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6), Early Education (PreK-K), and Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Doddridge Elementary School with Amanda Rial and Karen Siders. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. Shelly Ratliff were her GSC supervisors. She and her husband Dakota have one child, Kenley.
Aimee Asbury of Hurricane, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Amber Frashure and Tammy Moore. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Don Sheets were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Chris and Jessica Asbury.
Kelly Bruce of Brandywine, Maryland completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Flatwoods Elementary School with Jamie Currence and Michelle Wilson. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Glen and Dana Bruce.
Sarah Brunty of Rupert, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at New River Intermediate with Sarah Pennington and at Oak Hill High School with Gregory Richmond. Her GSC supervisors were Dr. David Lewis and Frances Fry. She is the daughter of David and Debbie Brunty.
Taylor (Keenan) Cool of Summersville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Summersville Elementary School with Susan Withee and Crystal Hayhurst. Frances Fry was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of David and Lori Keenan. She and her husband Cody have two children, Owen and Lacen.
Dorothy Davis of Diana, West Virginia completed her student teaching in English Education (5-adult) at Braxton County High School with Sharon Desper and at Hacker Valley Elementary School with Janet Morton. Dr. Melody Wise and Frances Fry were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Robin and Nelson Davis.
Rachel Flanigan of Pullman, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Mathematics Education (5-adult) at Ritchie County High School with Jackie McBrayer. Her GSC supervisors were Dr. Shara Curry and Larry Baker. She is the daughter of Robin and Jimmy Reinig. She and her husband Louis have two children, Jayson and Annalyn.
Autumn Knight of Buckhannon, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Lewis County High School with Terry McAbee and at Robert L. Bland Middle School with Alexis Fisher. Don Sheets was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Kendra Sayre and Buddy Knight.
Clayton Lagasse of Salem, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Gilmer County Middle/High School with McKinley Buckley and Karen McClain. Dr. Shara Curry was his GSC supervisor. He is the son of Scott and Cindy Lagasse.
Bethany Spelock of Glasgow, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6), Early Education (PreK-K), and Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Geary Elementary and Middle School with Regina Jurkovich and Brittany Vaughan. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Connie Stout O’Dell were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of DeAnnia Spelock.
Brooke Spencer of Fenwick, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Tammy Moore and Amanda Poole. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Don Sheets were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Jason and Tammy Spencer.
Faith (Donze) Woods of Saint Albans, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Mathematics Education (5-adult) at Robert L. Bland Middle School as a Teacher in Residence with Tammie Lattea. Dr. Shara Curry and Larry Baker were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Brian and Debbie Donze. She is married to Cameron Woods.
Senior teacher education students take part in an internship during their final semester at GSC. At the conclusion of their internship students must complete a presentation illustrating their mastery of the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards as well as the standards of their particular area of study.
