Actress Ilene Evans is scheduled to be on the campus of Glenville State College to portray well-known slave Harriet Tubman. This program is part of the West Virginia Humanities Council's History Alive Series in which humanities scholars research writings, speeches and biographies of the characters they portray. The free performance will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Auditorium. Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland but escaped through the Underground Railroad to Pennsylvania in 1849. She then became the most famous leader of that network aiding slaves in their escape to free states and Canada. The event is an extension of GSC's festivity schedule for Black History Month, which was observed in February. GSC faculty, students, staff, and alumni as well as local residents are welcome to attend. For more information, call Kipp Colvin at (304) 462-7361 x7441.
