GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State College President Dr. Tracy Pellett and Vice President for Student Life and Athletics, Rusty Vineyard, honored three individuals through GSC’s ‘Half-time Heroes’ initiative during the Pioneer Football game on Saturday, October 21. Dr. Lloyd Bone, Debra Nagy, and Dr. David Corcoran were recognized and thanked for their efforts on campus, in the community, and in GSC’s service area. Half-time Heroes are individuals who bring recognition to GSC through their dedication and civic duties, which enhances the overall image of Glenville State College.

“I am proud to recognize these three Pioneers as a small token of our appreciation for all of their hard work. One of the best parts of being President at Glenville State College is having the opportunity to work with such great faculty, staff, community leaders, alumni, and donors. The individuals we’ll be honoring as Half-time Heroes work tirelessly to make this campus and our community better places,” said Glenville State College President Dr. Tracy Pellett.

Bone is a resident of Glenville, West Virginia and has worked at Glenville State College for 13 years where he serves as an Associate Professor of Music, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts, and Director of the GSC Marching Band. He is deeply committed to student learning and is determined and passionate about the success of his students. He received GSC’s Faculty Award of Excellence in May of this year. Along with the marching band, Bone also directs the Brass Ensemble and the Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, published the world’s first guide book for the euphonium, has led GSC students around the world for meetings of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference, and has been nominated for a Music Educator Award by the Grammy Foundation. Bone enjoys recruiting for GSC and, for the past 10 years, has brought prospective students from throughout West Virginia to campus for GSC’s Honor Band and Honor Choir Festival.

Nagy is a resident of Glenville, West Virginia and has worked at Glenville State College for over 44 years. She has served as Director of Alumni Affairs since 2003 and works countless hours behind the scenes on building alumni relations for GSC. Additionally, she works to schedule facilities for the College and coordinates many special events including Homecoming, the Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, commencement exercises, and the Alumni Association’s annual spring banquet.

Corcoran is a resident of Glenville, West Virginia and has been since he purchased the Glenville Democrat and Glenville Pathfinder newspapers in 1995. He is proud of the news coverage that his community newspapers have given to GSC over the last 22 years, and proud to have been able to work to promote the Veterans Legacy Project throughout the state after being elected the 2013 West Virginia Press Association President. Corcoran has won many Press Association writing awards through the years and, in 2016, received the prestigious Adam R. Kelly Premier Journalist Award. He has also served as an adjunct professor at GSC and is always ready to help the college whenever needed.

“Alumni, faculty, staff, and community members are vital to the success of Glenville State. We know that this campus has great people and it is my hope that, through initiatives like these, that everyone understands how important they are to us. The recognition of good deeds and outstanding work is something that we should all do more frequently,” Pellett added.
