The Glenville State College chapter

of the American Chemical Society (ACS) attended the 233rd National ACS Meeting and Exposition on March 25th through the 29th in Chicago, Illinois. Those attending were Beth Gregory, Brenton Drake, Melinda Woods, Jeremy Connolly, Jake McDougal, Gina Cottrill, and Sarah Ramezan. They were accompanied by faculty advisor Dr. Kevin Evans. These students made two of the over seven thousand presentations at this exposition. One of these presentations highlighted their accomplishments from the 2005-2006 academic year. The other presentation was presented by Brenton Drake and Sarah Ramezan on the synthesis of alkenyl bromides and alkyl dibromides.

At the awards ceremony, the GSC ACS was awarded outstanding recognition for the 2005-2006 academic year. While receiving the award, two pictures were displayed to around one thousand individuals attending the ceremony. Glenville State College was the only college in West Virginia to receive national recognition from the ACS.

The American Chemical Society is the world’s largest scientific society dedicated to a single discipline with more than 158,000 professionals in the chemical science world worldwide. There are currently 980 student affiliate chapters with more than 10,000 undergraduate students.
