Glenville, WVâExit Day for twenty-two Fall 2007 Glenville State College teacher interns
was held at the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom on Friday, December 7th. The morning started with a continental breakfast sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi for all interns, faculty, and staff.
Kappa Delta Pi, the Educational Honor Society, also presented the Fall 2007 Most Outstanding Intern Award to Rebekah Long of Lincolnton, Georgia. Long is a December graduate of GSC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. She completed her student teaching in Calhoun County at Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill
Elementary Schools and Calhoun County Middle/High School.
The GSC Student Education Association recognition award was given to Heather Phares of Gilmer County. Phares served as president of the organization for two years. Phares did her student teaching at Glenville Elementary and Gilmer County High School. She has completed her Bachelorâs Degree in Education with specializations in Elementary Education, Early Elementary Education, and Multi-Categorical Special Education.
Glenville State College Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Kathy Butler addressed the group offering her congratulations and well wishes for their teaching careers. âTeaching is not your job; it is your passion. It is who you are. If teaching was just a job, anyone could be a teacher, but it takes special people like you who dedicate themselves to their students,â said Butler.
Several of these December Graduates have already been offered teaching positions; some
are looking for jobs, while others will continue their education. An even bigger class of student teachers is expected for the GSC Spring 2008 term when there will be around fifty interns. Glenville State College continues to be a leader in Teacher Education in West Virginia.
