GLENVILLE, WV - In anticipation of the upcoming school year Glenville State College and Shentel, a Virginia-based cable and internet service provider, have announced a new partnership through which the broadband company will provide high quality cable and internet services to the institution.
Students will now have access to a 500MB internet service circuit supporting 10mbps per student from the bulk internet service. GSC's Information Technology Officer Jason Phares said, "This speed and capacity gives Glenville State College a faster internet speed than any of the other colleges in the state. Today’s students expect to be able to connect easily to the internet and download quickly. We know they are going to be excited when they experience this incredible upgrade."
Included in Shentel's cable offerings will be a 68-channel TV lineup and the college will receive a dedicated cable channel exclusively for its use. That channel will transport college-generated content to communities throughout the region where Shentel is the local provider. Shentel also has connected GSC's new Waco Center and Morris Stadium to allow real-time television coverage of football and basketball games as well as other sports and events.
"We're delighted to be working with Glenville State College by providing their student body with advanced technology resources to support their college experience," said Shentel Vice President of Cable Tom Whitaker. "This commitment is a great example of Shentel fulfilling its mission as a premier rural broadband provider," he added.
New and returning Pioneers will have the chance to put the technology to good use beginning Friday, August 15th. That day marks the beginning of Move-In Weekend at GSC and classes officially begin on Monday, August 18th. Shentel representatives will be on hand during the weekend to answer any student questions.
