GSC Participates in West Virginia Higher Education Day

Glenville, WV—Glenville State College was one of over twenty West Virginia colleges and universities that took part in the annual Higher Education Day at the State Capitol on Thursday, February 28th. The event allowed participants to set up displays promoting their institutions, distribute information, and talk with visitors and members of the West Virginia Legislature. Displays were set up between 9 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on the upper floor of the Capitol Rotunda in the halls between the Senate and House chambers.

Those attending Higher Education Day from Glenville State College included President Dr. Peter Barr and his wife Betsy, Executive Assistant to the President Teresa Sterns, Alumni Affairs Director Debra Nagy, and four GSC students representing different departments.

Katie Murray ofJackson County representedTeacher Education, Sophomore Wesley Long of Wirt County displayed surveying equipment and techniques fro the Land Resources Department, senior Shelly Leggett of Braxton County promoted the Criminal Justice Program, and senior Marcal Lazenby of Georgia wore his Pioneer Football uniform representing GSC Athletics.
At noon all displays were dismantled and all Higher Education Day participants were treated to a luncheon at the Cultural Center. The Chancellor’s Lecture Series, host by Dr. Brian Noland Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, was held from 1:00pm to 3:00 p.m. in the Cultural Center.

West Virginia Higher Education Day is held each year during the legislative session to provide visitors, potential students, and state lawmakers with the opportunity to learn more about West Virginia colleges and universities.
