Glenville, WV--The Glenville State College Pioneer Marching Band and Chamber Singers will be among the featured performers at the 2009 West Virginia Renaissance Festival on Saturday, October 3rd in Beckley, West Virginia. The Chamber Singers will perform from 5:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the Marching Band will perform from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in downtown Beckley and is part of the hugely popular Chili Night, which has become one of, if not the largest annual culinary event, in West Virginia. The Chili Night consists of numerous vendors competing for the best chili title. It begins at 5:00 p.m. and is centered in the historic district of downtown Beckley. Tickets can be purchased to sample chili from all of the vendors.
GSC Marching Band director Lloyd Bone said, "One of our students and one of our alumni from southern West Virginia highly encouraged me to check this out as they said it is a huge event. After speaking with numerous people, it sounds like this is going to be a great opportunity for us to get GSC's name out in an area that we do not receive much exposure." The GSC Marching Band will have a very busy day on Saturday. They will be performing their pre game show and half time show, if time allows, at the Pioneer football game with West Liberty State College at Morris Stadium. The Band will then board a bus for the two-hour trip to Beckley.
