Glenville, WV -- October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the Glenville State College Lady Pioneers want people to also âThink Pinkâ during the month of February as well as all year long. The GSC womenâs basketball team is having a âThink Pinkâ night during one of their upcoming home basketball games. Starting forward Karina Kendrick says fans who wear pink to the game against Ohio Valley University on Saturday, February 9th at 5:30 p.m. will not be charged an admission fee.
Kendrick said, âAs a team, we will be wearing pink shooting shirts in honor of breast cancer awareness that evening. Anyone who wears pink to the game as well will be admitted free of charge. Fifty-fifty proceeds and any other donations we collect will be donated to the Kay Yow/Womenâs Basketball Coaches Association cancer fund.â
âThink Pink is a good event to promote breast cancer awareness and support those suffering from or affected by breast cancer. Breast cancer is a growing concern for women today, and by having such an event, it shows our teamâs support of the cause to eradicate the disease. Since a few girls on the team have been touched by those who are suffering with or suffered from breast cancer, we thought it was a good idea to try and get the community and campus involved. Personally, I lost a very close family friend (Trisha Sorg) who died in 2006 of breast cancer. That has driven me to promote this event and raise money in hopes of finding a cure and promoting awareness," said Kendrick.
According to the WBCA website, the WBCA's âThink Pinkâ initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities, and beyond. More information is available at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association website which is www.wbca.org.
