Glenville, WVâLocal residents can learn more about the nationâs number one killer by going to lunch at Glenville State College. The campus will again be the site of one of many âWear Red Dayâ events around the state and the country to raise awareness about heart disease.
GSCâs Campus Health Nurse Julia Barr and Student Activities Director Kipp Colvin are teaming up to organize the event. Colvin said, âWe encourage everyone to participate by wearing red to work that day and to the luncheon. This event will help the American Heart Association raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and empower people to reduce their risk.â
Barr said, âWe are proud to be joining the AHA and concerned companies and organizations across America in the fight against the number one killer of women as well as of men. âWear Red Dayâ is a chance for us to arm ourselves with knowledge about this devastating disease and to raise funds that will help the AHA advance its research and education efforts.â
The national campaign features a red dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. This symbol links a woman's focus on her outer self to the need to also focus on her inner self and her heart. A simple red dress works as a visual red alert to get the message heard loud and clear: âHeart Disease Doesn't Care What You WearâIt's the #1 Killer of Women.â For more information, visit Heart Truth.gov.
Glenville State Collegeâs free âWear Red Dayâ luncheon is scheduled for Friday, February 8th at noon in the Mollohan Campus Community Center.
