GSC Hosting 'Wear Red Day' Event
Mon Feb 2, 2009

Local residents can learn more about the nation’s number one killer by going out to lunch at Glenville State College. The campus will again be the site of one of many free ‘Wear Red Day’ events around the state and the country to raise awareness about heart disease.

GSC’s Campus Health Nurse Julia Barr and Student Activities Director Kipp Colvin are teaming up to organize the event. Colvin said, “We encourage everyone to participate by wearing red to work that day and to the luncheon. This event will help the American Heart Association raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and empower people to reduce their risk.”

The national campaign features a red dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. This symbol links a woman's focus on her outer self to the need to also focus on her inner self and her heart. A simple red dress works as a visual red alert to get the message heard loud and clear: ‘Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear—It's the #1 Killer of Women.’ For more information, visit http://www.hearttruth.gov.

Glenville State College’s free ‘Wear Red Day’ luncheon is scheduled for Friday, February 6th at noon in the Mollohan Campus Community Center.
