‘Local law enforcement officials have shut down yet another meth lab today.’ That headline has become more frequent in local, state, and national news headlines lately. That’s because a trend of manufacturing illicit drugs continues to take place in West Virginia as well as around the country. Glenville State College is teaming up with the National Corrections and Law Enforcement Training and Technology Center to help combat that problem and clean up such illicit drug labs in a safe manner. GSC and NCLETTC are sponsoring a free Clan Lab Symposium on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the GSC Heflin Administration President’s Auditorium.
Topics discussed in the seminar will include: what a Clan Lab is as well as what drugs are produced in them, the dangers of methamphetamine and its production, actions and responsibilities of first responders to clan lab scenes, and pre-planning tactics for the clan-lab response. NCLETTC Project Manager, Tom Dailer, said, “The class will give further meth and clan lab insight to educators and first responders from all facets of the public safety community. Law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS/EMT personnel will benefit the most as they learn what a clandestine laboratory is, how to identify a clan lab, and, most importantly, what safety measures are necessary to prevent illnesses, contamination, and explosions from them.”
“Various air monitoring device kits, their purpose and proper usage will also be covered as well as new and emerging technologies related to meth detection and meth detection kits,” said Dailer.
The class has been approved for four law enforcement credit hours for participants.
