GSC Honors Congressman Alan B. Mollohan

Alan B. Mollohan, West Virginia’s First District Congressman, received an Honorary Doctor of Public Service at Glenville State College’s commencement ceremony on May 9th. Mollohan also served as keynote address speaker for this event. When asked about his role of speaker and this honor, Mollohan said, “I am proud to be considered a friend of Glenville State College, and I was both honored and humbled to speak to the class of 2009 and especially to be awarded this degree.”

Mollohan was honored for his staunch advocacy for economic development in central West Virginia. He has worked tirelessly to develop a sustainable economy through diversified enterprises (high-tech, aerospace, and government-service activities.)

Mollohan is a graduate of Greenbrier Military School, the College of William and Mary, and West Virginia University’s College of Law and began his legal career in 1970. He was sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1983, and has served in each successive Congress. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, is a member of the Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, and is also a member of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security.

Mollohan is a native of Fairmont in Marion County and has five children with wife Barbara, who is a native of Glenville.
