Randall Reid-Smith, Commissioner of West Virginia Division of Culture and History, received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree at Glenville State Collegeâs commencement ceremony May 9th. Reid-Smith said, âI was shocked, surprised, and speechless to have received this award. The ceremony was a humbling experience and a great honor.â
Reid-Smith was honored for his leadership in preserving and promoting West Virginiaâs prized cultural heritage and for his renowned musicianship. He has served as the Commissioner since 2006 overseeing responsibilities for the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, the stateâs Archives and History Commission, the Capitol Building Commission, and the Records Management and Preservation Board. He administers the Arts Section, Archives Section, Historic Section, and the Museums Section for the State of West Virginia.
The Commissioner holds a Masterâs of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
