GLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College students and employees showcased the Hidden Promise Scholars Program and the college as a whole at Higher Education Day 2015 held at the State Capitol in Charleston on Tuesday, January 27th. GSC's exhibit included promotional literature explaining GSC programs, fields of study that are available, and photographs of the campus.
"Higher Education Day is a wonderful way for us to show off the many things our faculty, staff, and students are doing at Glenville State College. It also provides a unique opportunity for our students to meet legislators and interact with the public," said GSC President Dr. Peter Barr.
In addition to President Barr, Glenville Sate College was represented by two GSC Hidden Promise Scholars: sophomore Brandon Peck from Pineville, West Virginia and freshman Kayla Palmer from Montrose, West Virginia. The Hidden Promise Program is an alliance of GSC and county school districts in West Virginia, Ohio, and Connecticut aimed at increasing the number of high school and college graduates. Also in attendance from GSC were Hidden Promise Scholars Program Director Teresa Sterns, Hidden Promise Scholars Coordinator Stacy Adkins, and Alumni Relations Director/Special Assistant to the President Debbie Nagy.
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC) sponsors Higher Education Day every year during the regular legislative session. The annual event is designed to salute West Virginiaâs higher education institutions and to inform students, policymakers, and the public about post-secondary educational opportunities in the Mountain State. Representatives from more than thirty of the stateâs colleges and universities set up displays in the upper rotunda of the West Virginia State Capitol Building promoting their institutions.
