The Glenville State College Foundation hosted the Second Annual Scholarship Reception on Thursday, April 8th. This event invites all Glenville State College students receiving scholarships through the GSC Foundation Office to meet with the donors. One-hundred and forty students were present along with thirty-one donors. Donors were present from not only West Virginia but from other states including Ohio and Virginia and as far away as Michigan and South Carolina.
âThis gives the students an opportunity to personally thank their donors for giving them support in furthering their education. Many of the donors are GSC Alumni and like to hear college stories from a younger generation of Pioneers,â said GSC Vice President for College Advancement and GSC Foundation Executive Director Dennis Pounds.
Carl Shaw of Calhoun County represented the Helen Shaw Scholarship established in honor of his late wife. He says Helen did not attend college but was an avid reader and wanted to stimulate that interest in students. âI think it is great being able to meet with the recipients of my scholarship. I like to see the good that is being done with my contributions,â said Shaw.
Helen Shaw Scholarship Recipient Kayla Miller was also in attendance. âThis event connects the recipients and donors on a deeper level. Seeing their faces makes a difference,â said Miller, a Junior Marketing/Accounting Major and Nonprofit Leadership and Management Minor from Grantsville in Calhoun County.
