Glenville, WV – The Glenville State College Fitness Center, in coordination with the West Virginia State Folk Festival, is sponsoring a 5K Walk/Run and a Fastest Kid in Town Contest on June 18, 2011. The 5K Walk/Run will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the Fastest Kid in Town Contest starts at 9:00 a.m. The events will take place in downtown Glenville during the 62nd WV State Folk Festival which runs June 16-19.

Early registration fees are $15. Fees for registration after June 7 are $20. Entrants who preregister will receive a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female participants, the top two male and female master’s participants, and the top two participants in each age bracket. All participants will receive a free pancake breakfast after the race at the First Baptist Church of Glenville. Proceeds go to GSC Women's Basketball Team.

“I encourage the community to come out and take part in the 5K,” said GSC Fitness Center Director Shan Harkleroad. “We hope to see a lot of runners and walkers participating,” she continued. The Fastest Kid in Town Contest should prove to be an exciting competition as well as a family event that promotes health and exercise.
