The paintings of Liza Brenner, Glenville State College Instructor of Art, will be featured in an exhibit entitled âPaper Herds and Thingsâ at The GSC Fine Arts Gallery January 12th through March 6th. The exhibit will include Brennerâs paintings of bulls, matadors, and paper herds among others.
A reoccurring theme of an aggressor vs. prey is captured in many of Brennerâs paintings. âMy interest in this scenario began with the paintings of Manet and Goya. This journey has led me to play with the relationship the bulls and characters have with one another. I am exploring who is after whom, and the cause and effect of each scenario,â said Brenner.
Brenner earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing from Clarion University in Pennsylvania in 1998. She received a Master of Arts in Art Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2000 and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Edinboro in 2004.
In addition to GSC, Brenner has taught at the University of Pittsburgh-Greenburg, Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and ITT Technical Institute in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
Brennerâs works have hung in solo exhibitions in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and West Virginia. Some of her paintings have been shown in many group exhibitions including the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvannia.
The âPaper Herds and Thingsâ exhibit will be open in the GSC Fine Arts Gallery Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and one hour prior to special events in the Fine Arts Building. An open reception with the artist will be held on Tuesday, January 20th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Gallery.
