Glenville State College faculty and staff have stepped up for the seventh year to get involved with the Gilmer County
Relay for Life. Their team name is âGSC Stars of Hope,â and their captain is GSC Financial Aid Assistant II Amber Hamric. âI became involved with the Relay for Life when my father was diagnosed with cancer. He is a survivor of cancer and gives me hope and a reason to relay. I know together we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyoneâs life,â said Hamric.
Currently, the âGSC Stars of Hopeâ team members are selling baked goods and healthy snacks in the GSC Business and Finance Department break room on the second floor of Louis Bennett Hall. On February 18th, they will begin their chili sale, and they will be sponsoring a silent auction from March 15th to 31st. Other fundraisers to come include a hot dog sale, taco in a bag sale, and many more.
The Gilmer County Relay for Life is July 9th at the GSC I.L. Morris Stadium, and the kick-off event is being held February 18th at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilmer County Senior Citizenâs Center. The goal of the âGSC Stars of Hopeâ team is to raise $3,000 this year after raising more than $3,400 last year. âIt was an honor to be team captain. We have several faculty and staff at GSC who have been touched by cancer, and this is just another way that we can help support them in a beneficial way,â said last yearâs team captain, GSC Accounting Clerk II Melissa Jedamski. The Gilmer County Relay for Lifeâs fundraising goal is over $38,000.
